Genre Research: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

We chose a drama movie. We are going for a bit more dark of dramas. This movie appeals to our type of drama. It is more serious and deep. This movie has dark lightening, substance abuse, serious scripts, and more. Dramas are supposed to make you feel something. This movie definitely does by using real life scenarios and intensifying them with the editing and filming style. The movie used a lot of slow editing and chose an editing style to go along with the music and along with the action in the movie. The movies uses a lot of flash backs and fade in and fade out editing from one scene to the other. The costumes were everyday clothes to make the movie seem more real, they also used everyday props(high school setting). A good similarity we have between our upcoming film and this one is the age gap. We are all young high-schoolers going through life, and we want our film to represent some form of normality for someone. This film uses voiceovers to explain situations and explain feelings. This allows the film to be more deep and understanding for the person watching. Sound is extremely important for emotional films because it makes us feel more connected with the movie. Using emotional/deep music for the film is important to us and is the type of film we are looking to create. We discussed doing a film containing suicide as one of our options. We like real life situations so we can intensify it and make it more dramatic. However, the movie did have more of a slow editing style, I would like to use a more faster style. I am excited to see how similar the two films are.
