Working Title: The film name is likely to be "Bad Habits". It will be in edgy writing,  SOMETHING LIKE THIS.  The writing will most likely be capitalization. It could also be some capital letters and some lowercase. For example something like this. (Just showing the style and size of letters) I want to make the title come up and look  staticky almost. I want to use a light background with dark words or vise versa. When the main title comes up it should be bold and make a statement because the film is very deep. I think the main ideal color for the title card font should be black. All the of the title scenes will be inputted in like slamming into the screen. The main title will stay for 5 seconds. However the other titles in the the title sequence will be 2-3 seconds. The credits or the other titles will be smaller than the main title. The background of the opening credits will be just a video going through a low-income town. The credits will appear in the corner. Also, I am mo

Title research: Twister

Image
  1.  How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?  Which ones? Twister only had 4 title cards. These included two being the production company (Warner Bros) and the specific production. The last title was the main film name, Twister. The last title card, the main name, appeared with each letter, not all at once. This is a cool editing style that went along with the background.  2.  What connotations do the images carry?  ( how  do you they make you feel) The images make me feel a little scared. The also give the film a lot of suspense. The images weren't extremely descriptive towards the eye. It was wind/sand blowing around like a tornado. The words were put in place in front of the blowing winds. They overall make the movie more scarier and seem like it will have a good plot. 3.  How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?  (Can you tell what genre the film is) You can tell the film will be a bit eerie and dramatic.   1.  How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?  Which ones?    Many titles over 40 were shown. This title sequence started with the cast and ended on the directors and other leads of creation, unlike the Queens Gambit. The last title scenes were the directors and producers. Ending with the big name of the film. 2.  What connotations do the images carry?  ( how  do you they make you feel)     The images are extremely eerie. They are dark and in places like prisons, scary fields, or weird objects. They make me feel a little nervous and scared. Having the images all be at night, and in random areas make it scarier. The film is definitely going to have good visuals based on this intro. The images also being random and having no extreme correlation with each other leaves me a bit of suspense of where the film will take place and who will be there.  3.  How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?  (Can you tell what genre the f

Title research: Gattaca

1.  How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?  Which ones?     There was a total of 18 title scenes, 20 including the two quotes at the very beginning. It started with the quotes then went to the main production company(Columbia), the production, who the film was by, finally the cast. They showed two cast members then the main title, Gattaca, then the rest of the cast. It is assumed that the two first cast members listed are the main actors. Then finally, the other important people that added to the film at the end. 2.  What connotations do the images carry?  ( how  do you they make you feel) The imaging at the start is most just blue screen. It shows something falling and bouncing around in the background. Then at the end you can see a main shaving his beard. The movie is starting at the end of the title sequence. The imaging at the beginning make me feel wonder as to what's going to happen and leave me suspenseful because they don't give you a lo

What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? American Zoetropes presents, a muse production, and in association with eternity pictures is showed first. The title of the movie was presented more in the middle. What images are prioritized in the opening sequences? The first prioritized images are those of the neighborhood that the story takes place, views of neighbors walking their dogs and watering their lawns. They are all very serene images in a basic sunny setting. Then it goes into the bathroom where Cecilia had an attempt, and the ambulance come to save her.  What connotations do these images carry? The images carry an unsuspecting connotation. They show the dark or hidden side of a seemingly normal, happy neighborhood and family. Many people may think nothing goes on in their normal suburban town, but there are always dark sides and hidden truths. It is a rather mundane connotation to it at first, but turns more interesting. How does the film establish a feeling of the

Art of the Titles We are researching this website because of its excellent movie title presentation. The site seems simple, and easy to navigate. The cover page shows exactly what we can find on the site. The 2021 Emmy nominations for main title design gives me good examples for title sequences. By having well appreciated shows in the homepage, the site looks like it contains helpful information. Without even having to search for movies, there are some recommended. You can hit the "Title Sequences" tab and and there are "recommended" titles as well as "classic" ones shown. The main reason for researching this site because of its priority in film titles. It shows mainly film tiles, with stories about them. There is also a search menu for movie titles, broadening our line of sight. Forget the film, Watch the Titles Forget the film, Watch the Titles is an even more eye catching website. Immediately upon visiting the site, there is a slideshow filtering throug

Thirteen is a popular teenage drama in the film world. It is filmed to present a very real story with a dramatic movie flare. One of the main aspects of this film is that there is a twilight blue hue cast over the entirety of it. This dark sort of overcast is an element we would love to incorporate in our piece. The movie consists of tracking shots. It also has a lot of zoom ins which create w really cool affect. The different angles that are used to shoot bring the drama element to this show. The music sound track was also very fitting, and the same elements of song will likely be incorporated. Some aspects will probably not be used in out film. For example, there were numerous over the shoulder shots used throughout the film, but I don't see us using that in our movie intro. Majority of props used were drugs and alcohol, which will play a big part for our film. There are lots of eye level shots and close ups in this film used to make the characters seem even further gone and tw

We chose a drama movie. We are going for a bit more dark of dramas. This movie appeals to our type of drama. It is more serious and deep. This movie has dark lightening, substance abuse, serious scripts, and more. Dramas are supposed to make you feel something. This movie definitely does by using real life scenarios and intensifying them with the editing and filming style. The movie used a lot of slow editing and chose an editing style to go along with the music and along with the action in the movie. The movies uses a lot of flash backs and fade in and fade out editing from one scene to the other. The costumes were everyday clothes to make the movie seem more real, they also used everyday props(high school setting). A good similarity we have between our upcoming film and this one is the age gap. We are all young high-schoolers going through life, and we want our film to represent some form of normality for someone. This film uses voiceovers to explain situations and explain feelings.

Genre Research: Joker

One great part about the Joker is its emphasis on the drama. An easy alert of the Joker character is his distinctive makeup. The movie uses his makeup, along with special effects makeup on many other characters. Makeup will definitely be a big element of our movie intro. Along with makeup, the characters costumes will also be taken into account. The characters in the joker are dressed rather normally for the day and age. In our piece, i see us also bringing looks out with makeup, but maybe creating more emphasis on costumes. Many scenes of this movie took place in a home, neighborhood or dark alley. This is a popular setting for drama movies. We are most likely going to have scenes filmed in these places. Throughout the film, point-of-view and close-ups were used. The use of these film techniques "encouraged the audience to identify with a character". This is exactly what we want in out film. We will definitely be using these film techniques in order to get pulled in and atta

Genre Decision Blog

After thorough research and thought, we've decided on the Drama genre. Horror, drama, and comedy are three entirely different genres, and are rather difficult to compare. Our pitch has a rather dark and serious aspect to it. With this, concluded that the lightheartedness of a comedy was definitely not the way to go. Aspects of a comedy include things bright and joyous lighting, fun props and light makeup. It is clear that a film capturing battles with substance abuse and addiction would not be portrayed in a breezy light hearted way. Further, popular movies under the comedy genre, like Step Brothers and Mean Girls, have none of the vision that wee see in our movie. This left us to decide between horror and drama. While these can both have chilling, surreal aspects, one just fit our theme better than the other. Horror films make use of dark lighting, setting and mood, but horror does it as the scare the watchers, and we don't want to go THAT dark. Horrors use a lot of eerie mus

What elements do not appeal to you and what would you stay away form? We believe all of the elements i have listed are necessary to make a horror film.

We would love to use good lighting, creative scripts, many interactions, voiceovers. We would love to get plenty of actors for this comedy film as well, to create many different funny characters.  What elements do not appeal to you and why wouldn't you use them? Some comedies use funky costumes and crazy makeup. I would want to steer away from that to build a better quality film.

Our Pitch

Image
Pitch 1: A dark childhood can send anyone down the wrong path, but this pain and abuse led to an even stronger addiction than her fathers alcoholism.  Pitch 2: A fun loving summer road trip just before college. Go out with one last hurrah before they all go our separate ways. After careful though we decided to go with pitch one. The dark theme it presents may be challenging, but we think we can capture it best. There is a lot of room for creativity and vision with this storyline. Even if majority of this is filmed indoors, the dark winter feel right now will allow us to get good outdoor clips as well. This pitch is drew our attention more and there are already so many ideas going though our head that we will be able to use in a dark theme. While pitch two seemed like a fun idea, we felt that it wasn't the best choice. A roadtrip idea seems more suitable for the summer, but we are in the winter season right now. This means that all the fun, bright Florida scenery won't be captu
